This bit is used for horses that are difficult to control. It is also known as an anti-rearing bit. The bit is helpful for leading breeding stallions and other horses prone to bargy behaviour and rearing while being led.
The ring of the Chifney bit sits in the horse's mouth with the three bit rings facing down and out towards the sides. A lead rope or chain for safe handling on the ground will prevent the horse from rearing since the pressure from the bit is released when the horse is not pulling upward.
